This degree aims to develop graduates with an awareness of professional practice within the interdisciplinary, global biotechnology industry. The degree is designed to develop students abilities to contribute to the development of scientifically sound, ethical and culturally sensitive solutions to complex problems for the economic and social benefit of society.
On completion of the degree students will be able to transfer and apply core scientific concepts to propose solutions in the biotechnology industry and use critical analysis and problem solving skills to propose innovative solutions within a diverse range of biotechnology industry sectors. Students will be able to synthesise information and communicate effectively, succinctly and sensitively with the scientific community, co-workers, government agencies, investors, the broad public and particular cultural and Indigenous communities and incorporate understanding and awareness of Indigenous and other communities' religious beliefs and culture into biotechnology practice. Students will be able to apply research skills appropriate to postgraduate research or advanced industrial investigation.
This degree prepares graduates for employment in various workplaces including private and public global organisations. Potential occupations may include biotechnologist, quality assurance and researcher; potential employers may include universities, bionomics and other research centres.
