Overview

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Chemical Sciences)/Master of Engineering (Materials) is available to high-achieving students, enabling them to undertake a program of study in chemical sciences and materials engineering in only five years with this degree combination. It prepares students with a broad-based foundation in chemistry before continuing to the masters, which provides an understanding of advanced processing and fabrication methods of engineering materials and their characterisation.Chemical and materials engineering is the principle of turning raw materials into valuable and useful products for society by combining the knowledge of scientific disciplines such as physics, maths and chemistry together with the integration of engineering principles.  New materials give products their functional and aesthetic properties with the consideration that they must also be economically viable and maintain safety and environmental standards. This double degree equips students with the ability to combine chemically founded scientific and engineering solutions in order to problem solve. Potential occupations include: materials engineer; materials testing engineer; patent examiner; project engineer/manager; project engineering officer; technical sales executive; analytical chemist; and forensic chemist.
