Overview

Explore the importance of plant diversity, physiology, biochemistry, development, genetics, ecology, and crop production. This course will teach you how plants survive and thrive in their environment and what strategies we can employ to maintain plant productivity in response to global climate change, along with the principles of cell biology, biochemistry and physiology of plants, a resource critical for existence of humans and animals on our planet. The Honours year in Plant Science provides students with advanced skills that are required for planning, funding and carrying out research project. The degree aims to develop a range of transferable research, analytical and communication skills including the capacity to understand and apply relevant scientific principles.

The degree prepares graduates who have developed extensive knowledge in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of plant science and have completed coursework designed to address topical concerns in industry and society preparing them for employment in related fields such as agriculture, horticulture, conservation, ecology and biotechnology.

On completion of the Honours degree, students will be able to apply research skills appropriate to postgraduate research or advanced industrial investigation.
