Overview

This double qualification allows students to undertake an initial program in Science and then complete an accredited Masters program in secondary teaching. The science degree will incorporate intensive hands-on laboratory and fieldwork experience in state-of-the-art laboratories. An innovative program will be offered to students that embraces opportunities to engage in industry-based projects. These types of learning experiences will enhance student knowledge of scientific theory in 21st century practice.

Students who satisfactorily meet the unit requirements of the science degree program will be given an opportunity to pathway into a postgraduate teaching (secondary) program. The postgraduate teaching component of the combined program prepares students for registration as teachers in VIT assessed discipline areas. The teacher education program involves significant learning in the workplace.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.

Majors

Biotechnology, Curriculum Design, Ecology and Environmental Management, Education, Pedagogy.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science/Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) who have passed the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education are eligible for registration as secondary school teachers.

Graduates can also pursue careers in a range of educational related industries and organisations.
