Overview

If you like the idea of working in community welfare, mental health, security, law enforcement or a range of other roles that benefit the social and cultural standing of communities, government or businesses, a career in a social science may be for you.

Choose from the major study areas of criminology, security and international relations, security and counter terrorism, or behavioural studies and be equipped for diverse careers in areas such as child protection, crime prevention, national security, government and foreign affairs.

Explore topics such as human behaviour, social issues, ethical dilemmas and international relations, and develop a rounded understanding of sociocultural and socioeconomic environments. Your critical thinking skills will be honed through the analysis of theoretical principles and the reviewal of research. Graduates will display confidence in communicating ideas and arguments in their chosen disciplines.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: satisfactory completion of any English.

Majors

Behavioural Studies, Criminology, Security and Counter Terrorism, Security and International Relations.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates may find career opportunities community welfare, mental health, security, or law enforcement in a range of roles such as mental health support worker, corrections officer, youth and welfare services worker, juvenile justice and corrections officer, or community services and development officer.
