Overview

This degree will equip you with the knowledge, skills and values required for social work practice. You'll graduate prepared to work in a range of contexts, including government, not-for-profit and private organisations. This degree is recognised for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers.

The Bachelor of Social Work (External) aims to prepare students for professional work as a social worker in a range of settings; with a core body of knowledge, skills, values and methods in social work and a sound understanding of the multiple cultural and institutional contexts and challenges of practice.

On completion of this degree students will be able to analyse Australian social, political and welfare systems and institutions and analyse and promote solutions to Australian social issues, change and challenges. Students will be able to implement a range of methods, techniques and applications of social work.

In accordance with Australian Association of Social Workers requirements, students are required to attend the Bedford Park campus in South Australia for 20 days of face-to-face learning, focusing on practice skills. This is taught in intensives so that students in regional and remote areas and interstate can travel to attend.

This degree prepares graduates to be able to work in a range of context. Potential occupations may include community development, research and social policy; potential employers may include child protection agencies, mental health agencies and domestic violence agencies.
