Overview

These courses provide students with a strong understanding of the processes and mechanisms underlying sport and exercise science, and with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and plan sport and exercise activities in health, physical activity, exercise rehabilitation, sport, coaching and event contexts. Both the Exercise Science and Exercise Therapy major in the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science degree are accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Completion of these majors enables exercise science accreditation and focuses on the assessment, prescription and delivery of exercise to apparently healthy people.

Completing either of these majors with exercise science accreditation and a GPA of 5.0 and above enables students to apply for the Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology at UTS. This is an 18 month degree that provides students with an established pathway to become an allied health professional as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (AEP) accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Upon graduation, students will confidently manage people presenting with diverse ranges of acute and chronic conditions, injuries or disabilities across musculoskeletal, neurological, neuromuscular, mental health, occupational, cardiovascular, respiratory, pulmonary, metabolic, renal, and cancer conditions culminating in a capstone subject where complex interactions among these diverse health problems will be addressed.

Students who complete the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science with the required electives and grade point average also meet current entry criteria for Master of Physiotherapy.

Students who complete Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (Exercise Therapy) are guaranteed entry into Master of Physiotherapy at UTS (subject to maintaining a credit grade point average and a successful internal interview). The Exercise Therapy major is open to recent school leavers only. It therefore cannot be chosen by students who have completed any tertiary studies including students enrolled in the UTS Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science degree (Exercise Science major or No major).

Master of Physiotherapy (UTS) is a two-year degree leading to eligibility for registration as a physiotherapist in Australia. Innovative and practice-based in approach, the course’s core areas of study include musculoskeletal anatomy, sport rehabilitation, neurological, orthopaedic and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, across the lifespan.
