Overview

This program aims to produce professionals with expertise in the variety of tasks undertaken by the modern surveyor.

As graduate you will apply your skills to enable large construction projects, manage property boundaries or collect high-precision spatial data that contributes to important scientific studies. Upon graduation RMIT Surveying graduates can also enter a Professional Training Agreement (PTA) through the Surveyors Registration Board of Victoria to become a Registered Licensed Surveyor.

The first two years cover general aspects of surveying. You'll also study specific fields such as engineering and topographical surveying. In third and fourth years, you will study more specific fields of surveying such as cadastral surveying and geodesy. You can also choose to complete a minor in Space Sci, Civil Engineering, Environmental Geo Science or Planning & Urban Design. 

Your study is complemented with field practicals based on industry practices through all years of the program.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL); Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Advanced imaging technologies, Cadastral surveying, Construction surveying, Earth observation science, Geodesy, Geospatial information science, Land and engineering, Positioning (navigation), Satellite positioning, Surveying.

Potential Career Outcomes

The type of careers this qualification leads to may include cadastral surveying practices, earth and space sciences, government and private construction, land administration and reform, land development and subdivision, land planning and resource management, mapping and geospatial science, overseas aid and development, scientific research organisations and hydrographic and geodetic surveying.
