Our Bachelor of Teaching (Middle) with Bachelor of Arts gives you the skills to engage growing young people in the vital study of history, society, culture and creativity.
The Arts covers a broad range of learning areas, including languages, history, geography, legal studies, psychology, and English. Over the course of the degree You will:
You'll graduate with the skills and knowledge to respond to the intellectual, social and emotional needs of students in the middle years. You will be fully qualified to register as a teacher Australia-wide. If you'd like to teach overseas, your degree will be valid in most other countries. An education background will also prove invaluable in a wide range of careers servicing communities outside of the classroom.
^Teaching areas include: business studies, economics, English, geography, history, languages, legal studies (minor only), linguistics (EAL/D), mathematical sciences, media, music teaching, psychology. If you wish to study the music teaching major, please apply for the Bachelor of Teaching (Middle)/Bachelor of Arts (Music Teaching) SATAC code 354431 as you will need to attend and pass an audition.
The Bachelor of Teaching is for students who have not previously undertaken university study. If you have already commenced a degree, you should consider completing that degree and then apply for the Master of Teaching (Middle and Secondary).
Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE): Prior to commencing fourth year of the degree, students must successfully complete both the literacy and numeracy components of the LANTITE. The LANTITE is administered through ACER.
This double degree program provides a professional qualification that is recognised for teacher registration purposes in South Australia. In most cases the qualification is portable to other states and overseas countries.
Please note: Mid-year entry will only be available to domestic students. Due to the program structure and professional experience placements, students commencing mid-year study will complete their program in 4.5 years instead of 4 years. An accelerated 3.5 year option is also available. Additionally, please note that the Business, Languages, Maths, and Psychology teaching areas within this program may not be available for mid-year entry.
