Overview

Model your passion for future generations. With many jobs of the future predicted to be in fields related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), we need great teachers with expertise and enthusiasm for these areas.

Our Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Mathematical and Computer Sciences prepares you to meet this demand and share vital skills with young people.

Develop your digital capabilities in our eLearning Program - the first and only one of its kind for Education students in Australia. All Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) students participate in the School of Education's eLearning Program that requires students to own an iPad with pencil and keyboard. The University of Adelaide will assist you with buying one via a subsidy. We will show you how to use your own iPad with pencil and keyboard to its full teaching potential so you can earn Apple Teacher status. You might even do your first year placement in an Apple Distinguished School.

You'll specialise in mathematics and/or information technology and one of the following additional learning areas: accounting; biology; business studies; chemistry; digital technologies; English; geography; history; languages (Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Modern Greek, EAL/D) and physics.

The Bachelor of Teaching is for students who have not undertaken previously university study. If you have already commenced a degree, you should consider completing that degree and then apply for the Master of Teaching (Secondary).

Prior to commencing fourth year of the degree, students must successfully complete both the literacy and numeracy components of the LANTITE. The LANTITE is administered through ACER.

Please note: Mid-year entry will only be available to domestic students. Due to the program structure and professional experience placements, students commencing mid-year study will complete their program in 4.5 years instead of 4 years.

Current COVID-19 vaccination advice for pre-service teachers: The University and the School of Education will continue to monitor the COVID-19 vaccination requirements in South Australian schools and the impacts on its pre-service teachers and will provide further information as it becomes available.
