Overview

In this course, students develop a range of practical, theoretical and technical skills and knowledge in textile design. 

With a focus on the contemporary and global textile design industry, related fields and emerging markets, this degree teaches the knowledge and skills related to the design and making of textile, material and fabric structures, surfaces, products, bodies, spaces and experiences. With an emphasis on sustainable and ethical design, they learn through studios, workshops, guest seminars and industry feedback. 
 
Students can choose to specialise through a minor in fashion design, sustainable innovation or fashion enterprise to complement their knowledge and skills. They will develop intelligent, creative and active studio-based learning approaches to design and will refine portfolio and communication skills to best demonstrate their textiles design knowledge and skills to industry. There are opportunities to undertake global study tours and exchange programs.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

This qualification can lead to careers including textile designer, digital designer, colour, surface and trim designer, knitwear designer, fashion designer, materials designer, product designer, illustrator, freelance designer, textile artist, graphic designer, communications designer, interior designer.
