The Bachelor of Tourism and Events Management aims to enable students to examine issues, trends and approaches in the global tourism and events industry; development and planning that allow for the retention of the authentic character of a place and investigate the approaches required to best deal with opportunities and challenges presented in global tourism. This degree promotes and utilises strong links with the tourism and events industry to develop a critical and theoretical understanding of tourism and events as a global phenomenon and apply that understanding to international, national, regional and local circumstances by examining diverse industry practices in a range of contexts.

On completion of this degree students will acquire a strong understanding of contemporary tourism and events management in both Australian and international contexts. This will include opportunities to apply knowledge and skills through industry placements, industry-linked projects, and international field schools. Graduates will be able to identify and respond to opportunities, challenges and trends in areas including sustainable tourism, cultural heritage tourism, and festival and event design and management.

This degree prepares graduates for employment in a variety of positions in a highly dynamic and diverse international industry. Potential occupations may include tourism development officer, ecotourism manager and festivals and events coordinator; potential employers may include tour companies, museums and heritage sites and art galleries and exhibition centres.

Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study. Students graduate with two degrees, expanding employment opportunities. For further information visit http://www.flinders.edu.au/combined-degrees .
