Find your special interests or develop diverse skills across a broad range of subjects including Indigenous studies, communication, criminology, sociology and anthropology, geography, history, linguistics, human services, and international studies. Whether you want to become a journalist, community development manager, anthropologist, or cultural heritage conservationist, the Diploma in Arts and Social Sciences will help you get there.
You will receive embedded support from the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, including access to a dedicated Student Liaison Officer, a quiet workspace for independent study and smaller class sizes in your foundational courses.

The Diploma in Arts and Social Science provides you with a level 5 Diploma qualification and a degree pathway at the University of Newcastle. Upon completion of the Diploma, you’ll receive guaranteed entry into the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Criminology, the Bachelor of Development Studies, the Bachelor of Global Indigenous Studies, the Bachelor of Media and Communication, or the Bachelor of Social Science.
