The Master of Pharmacy is your professional postgraduate qualification for registration as a pharmacist in Australia. This course provides advanced study in the areas of pharmacy practice, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, pharmacotherapy and health systems, and includes practical training in community and hospital pharmacies.
Any Biomedical Science undergraduate major can be taken however students wishing to study Master of Pharmacy are advised to complete the Pharmacology major as part of their undergraduate degree.
Pharmacology Major
Pharmacology is the branch of science that seeks to provide a deep understanding of the effects of drugs on the human body. Topics explored include how medicines produce their effects on specific body systems such as the cardiovascular or central nervous systems, and how drugs act at the cellular and molecular level. How can we avoid their toxic effects? How does the body protect itself against drugs and other foreign chemicals? Why do many drugs work better in some patients than in others?
Prerequisites:
(1) A competitive selection process will apply. ATAR or equivalent Chemistry and Mathematics Applications or higher recommended.
Recommended subjects:
The following ATAR or equivalent subjects are recommended as they will fulfil some of the prerequisites for the MPharm, or may be taken as Level 1 university units
Pharmacist* in Community, Hospital Pharmacy or Consultant Pharmacy, pharmaceutical researcher, policy adviser, health promotion officer, biochemist, laboratory manager,
* Postgraduate studies required.
