Overview

Drama is more than just waiting for that one big break. Taught by practising industry professionals in exceptional, purpose-built spaces and studios the Undergraduate Certificate in Acting is a 6-month introduction to acting and performing, designed for those with a desire to build a career in the performing arts industry, as well as those wanting to increase their confidence in acting and public speaking skills. This course introduces you to the fundamentals of acting and performance. You will participate in intensive actor training workshops developing movement and voice and exploring performance methodologies, as well as participate in collaborative, staged readings of theatrical text. The practical components are complemented by critical studies, analysing texts and methods in relation to their historical and sociological contexts.

This course is taught in English and is one semester of full-time study, or the equivalent part-time. Graduates are able to identify and apply major performance practices and methodologies, and critically appraise them in relation to their historical and sociological contexts, and can critically analyse texts and have knowledge of critical and theoretical concepts in the creative arts. Graduates have experience in working collaboratively to interpret and stage readings of theatrical texts.

This certificate is designed to provide you with a taste of the various Drama offerings at Flinders University. You may then choose to continue to further study or apply the skills you developed during the Certificate to other professions. Upon completion, you will be a more confident public speaker and presenter, which is beneficial in many businesses and roles. The Certificate will provide the foundational skills should this be your next step.

Upon completion, students that wish to continue their studies can consider applying for the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama) (SATAC code 214561) or the Bachelor of Creative Industries (Theatre and Performance) (SATAC code 244321). The program also provides a pathway or credit into the Bachelor of Arts (SATAC code 214031) for participants who wish to pursue further study in the future.
