Overview

This course is for people who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, and need to meet the prerequisites of an Allied Health course, including Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, and Occupational Therapy.

You will study a core unit that prepares you for your future career by exploring:

  • the foundations of health professional practice,
  • conceptions of illness, disability, health and wellbeing with a focus on contemporary models of care,
  • how healthcare practice is evolving, and the healthcare system is undergoing significant reform to improve public health
  • the structure and function of the Australian healthcare system, with a practical focus on Tasmanian health strategies, policy, key health indicators, demographics, resources, and outcomes,
  • the roles of different health professionals, with first-hand insight from practicing professionals, course coordinators, and discipline leaders to help you form a future career plan.

You will have opportunities to apply your knowledge and skills by engaging with real-world cases, strategies, and outcomes. In doing so, you will be able to identify, examine and challenge your own beliefs, and develop skills for life-long learning, both of which are essential capabilities for all health professionals.

In addition to this core learning, you will choose three units that help you meet the pre-requisite requirements for your allied health pathway of choice.
