5/5 is starting to be my default for Linguistics subjects... GofE was definitely worth it though.A few quick notes on background knowledge and prerequisites: Secret Life (1st year core unit) is

Yes, but Lesley would write on the board occasionally and that wouldn't be picked up, so you're better off attending unless you want to miss valuable demonstrations

Prof. Lesley Stirling, World's Cuddliest Linguist. I believe this is changing in 2016 though.
Past Exams Available
Yes, one. Much shorter and quite a bit easier than the real exam, but still touched on all the basic concepts that came up.

Textbook Recommendation
Student's Introduction to Grammar by Huddleston & Pullum - really beneficial but don't buy it, it's expensive :s
Options:
The Google Books versions here and here are kida dodgy quality but should suffice. There's also a bunch of other totally legal pdf versions if you google hard enough. This was the one I used, but that was only after another copy was taken down mid-semester, so you may have to find a backup at some stage.
