Overview

This course provides a broad perspective of fashion knowledge enabling students to find employment in a range of roles in the fashion industry, both locally and globally.

Focusing on design and technology, students develop creative and technical skills by working closely with the fashion industry, blending theory with practice through industry-driven design projects. Students learn the theory of, and techniques in: design concept generation, pattern-making and garment construction, including specifications and technical development, Computer Aided Design, sustainable manufacturing, logistics, technology and an understanding of the global market.

The practical nature of the course and close contact with industry, including undertaking work placements, gives students the expertise needed to succeed in the global fashion industry. In the final Capstone project, students work with industry partners such as Country Road, Cotton On, Adidas, and Seed, producing product ranges as a team.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in English other than EAL or at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Computer-aided design (CAD), Computer-aided pattern making, Fashion design, Garment construction, Patternmaking, Product specifications, Production planning, Supply chain management, Sustainable Practices in the fashion industry.

Potential Career Outcomes

This qualification can lead to careers including designer, pattern maker and grader, product developer, specification technician, quality assurance officer, production controller, illustrator, trend forecaster, and small fashion business owner/operator.
