Overview

This is an interdisciplinary, practice-based fine art course offering studies within 7 specialised studio areas, incorporating traditional, contemporary and emerging technologies.

Exploring art through studio practice, students develop a range of practical, conceptual and technical skills that enable them to evaluate approaches to their own practice, and to further their understanding of the creative industries.

Studio courses are taught by high-profile practising artists. The studio specialisations include ceramics, drawing, gold and silversmithing, painting, print, sculpture, video, sound and time-based art and they are complemented by integrated studies in the history and theory of art and professional practice.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Majors

Art History Theory and Culture, Ceramics, Drawing, Gold and silversmithing, Painting, Print, Sculpture, Video, sound and time-based art.

Preparing students for a career as a skilled practitioner, flexible researcher and future innovator, this qualification can lead to careers including studio based artist, craftsperson, animator, public artist, painter, draftsperson, photographer, jeweller, ceramicist, print maker, sculptor, sound artist, performance artist, screen and lens-based artist, artist assistant, technician, teacher/academic, curator, museum coordinator, short film maker, community arts coordinator, or arts therapist.
