Overview

As an RMIT Mathematics and Statistics student, you'll learn to think logically, approach problems in analytical and creative ways and prepare for career opportunities in areas such as Banking, Finance, Sport Statistics, Information security, Health, Logistics and the Environment.

Theory is applied to practical projects and real-world scenarios, while work-placements and industry seminars offer connections with industry, reinforce your communication and organisation skills and strengthen your employability. There are summer projects and international exchange opportunities will further enhance your experience in this bachelor.

You will acquire the skills to:
  • model complex systems for understanding, forecasting and mastering natural or human-based processes
  • manage and use large data sets
  • apply mathematics concepts for analysing and optimising decisions
  • use technology and programming to transform theoretical analysis into efficient and practicable solutions

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Applied mathematics, Mathematical computing, Modelling, Optimisation, Statistics.

Potential Career Outcomes

This qualification leads to careers in statistical modelling, information security, data mining, education and modelling business or industrial processes as well as environment factors modelling.

Graduates work in a variety of fields such as Business and Finance, Sports statistics, Information security, Risk management, Education, Health, Logistics, Engineering and many more.
