Overview

Why do people think, feel, and communicate the way they do? Anthropologists aim to better understand the everyday lives of humans in different contexts around the world. They study society and culture in all its variety.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology) has a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, and industry internships. You will:

  • examine other people's beliefs and behaviours while reflecting on your own
  • learn the methods anthropologists use to explore the diversity of human life
  • take courses on identity, gender, sexuality, popular culture, death, violence, and ritual
  • develop your ability to write about the lives of others ethically and accurately
  • build strong networks with peers, teachers, and industry
  • experience anthropological research at an advanced level
A capstone course will prepare you for an optional Honours year in anthropology or potential postgraduate study.

In addition to anthropology, our Bachelor of Arts program allows you to explore other interests by taking a minor (or another major) in a different discipline area. You can choose elective courses from the broadest range of study areas in the Arts in South Australia.

Where could it take you?

Anthropology graduates are culturally sensitive, critical thinkers who question taken-for-granted assumptions about the world. Perhaps you'll work to preserve endangered languages and cultures. You might be a policy advisor. You could be a documentarian, an art curator, a museum administrator, a travel writer, or a tour guide.
