Overview

Are you a lover of words? English as a discipline explores the rich and complex world of language, literature, culture, and communication across different forms and contexts. At the University of Adelaide, English has a tradition of outstanding teaching. Many of our professors have won prestigious national and international teaching awards - often based on positive student evaluations.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Arts (English) has a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, and industry internships. You will:

  • learn, think and write critically about the ways that literature and film reflect and influence our world
  • understand how cultural products shape our understanding of ourselves and our social contexts
  • develop communication, interpretation, and research skills through studying diverse creative works
  • explore emergent ways of reading texts
In addition to English, our Bachelor of Arts program allows you to explore other interests by taking a minor (or another major) in a different discipline area. You can choose elective courses from the broadest range of study areas in the Arts in South Australia.

Where could it take you?

You could be a journalist, a film critic, a novelist, or an arts reviewer. You might be a copywriter, directing campaigns in-house for a creative agency. Perhaps you'll work in public relations, as a teacher, or take on business development for non-profits.
