Overview

Have you been influenced by a French artist, writer, thinker, filmmaker, politician, or fashion designer? Think about it. Throughout history, French culture has profoundly impacted the world. To this day, French remains the second most studied foreign language globally. It is the official language in 29 countries and one of the only languages other than English spoken on five continents. In an increasingly globalised world, mastering French can only open doors.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Arts (French Studies) has a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, and industry internships. You will:

  • learn to speak, read and write French
  • develop an understanding and appreciation of French culture
  • study French influence in modern society
  • improve your knowledge of how language works
  • take complimentary courses on European culture
  • have the opportunity to study abroad
In addition to French Studies, our Bachelor of Arts program allows you to explore other interests by taking a minor (or another major) in a different discipline area. You can choose elective courses from the broadest range of study areas in the Arts in South Australia.

Where could it take you?

As the official language of all United Nations agencies and many international organisations, French can be a pathway to industry internships, employment, collaboration and research. You could be a public servant, an immigration specialist, a social worker, or a communications consultant. You might pursue international business, helping companies with communication and cultural understanding. Perhaps you're interested in translation, tourism, or teaching.
