Overview

Are you a melomaniac? Music making is both culturally distinct and humanly universal, enjoyed and cherished in so many different contexts. It is essential to the media world - for films, animated cartoons, television adverts, and games - and integral for wellbeing and community cohesion.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Arts (Music) has a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, and industry internships. You will:

  • understand music and its different styles as forms of cultural expression
  • explore musical concepts in classical, jazz and popular music
  • listen to musical works, read scores and research their backgrounds
  • practice analysis, transcription, composition and arrangement
  • study music pitch, melody, rhythm, harmony and form
  • learn media and sound editing concepts and techniques
  • build critical thinking skills to help you unpack the aesthetics, behaviour, function, and meaning of music.
In addition to Music, our Bachelor of Arts program allows you to explore other interests by taking a minor (or another major) in a different discipline area. You can choose elective courses from the broadest range of study areas in the Arts in South Australia.

Where could it take you?

You could compose film scores, TV jingles, or video game soundtracks. You might be a foley artist, cooking up sound effects in the studio. Perhaps you'll work in community arts, review records as a music journalist, or take your own songs on tour.
