Overview

As an RMIT Biomedical Science student you will learn about the human body and how it functions, as well as disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.

This degree will allow you to develop a broad understanding of human anatomy, physiology and pathology from cellular to systems level. You will learn about the roles played by different cell types, and about neuroscience, cancer, pharmacology, genetic engineering and using stem cells.

You will have the opportunity to complete a specialist minor in Medical Biotechnology or Clinical Health and Disease and in your final year you will acquire an understanding of the research process, as well as gain experience with modern technologies used in biomedical research.

The course is an ideal preparation for graduate entry into health sciences courses such as medicine, physiotherapy, and dentistry, allowing you to meet all the necessary prerequisites.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL); Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods, Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Physics; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology or Chemistry.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biomedical science, Biotechnology, Cell biology, Cell physiology, Human physiology, Medical science, Microbiology, Molecular medicine and biotechnology, Neurobiology, Pathology, Pharmacology.

The type of careers this qualification leads to may include biomedical research, diagnostic laboratories, health promotion and administration, medical and pharmaceutical industries and research in universities and hospitals.
