Overview

La Trobe's Bachelor of Biomedicine and Master of Clinical Audiology course package lets you develop a foundation in biology and medicine with the option to pursue a career in audiology.

You'll learn about the human body, its structure and function, and how diseases manifest, particularly the underlying molecular basis of illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease, malaria and cancer. You'll learn how to undertake and apply biomedical research, develop real-world practical skills, and learn how to meaningfully convey scientific and biomedical science information.

Graduates who meet the entry requirements for the Master of Clinical Audiology can turn their background in anatomy and physiology into specialised knowledge and skills. You’ll learn how to prevent hearing, tinnitus and balance disorders, plus assessment techniques and how to identify treatment options.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Majors

Audiology (Master of Clinical Audiology only), Biomedicine.

Potential Career Outcomes

Upon completion of this course package, you'll be well prepared for diverse roles in areas including education, medical sales, administration and media and communications, in biomedical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in hospitals and government departments.

Qualified audiologists can find work in the public health and not-for-profit sectors, or in private clinics.
