Overview

RMIT's Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) degree is highly regarded by the local and international news media industry for its blend of theory and practice.

Students take part in simulated and live productions of radio and TV news and current affairs for community broadcasters and on social media. Students learn to write high quality news and feature stories, which are published in the City Journal.

The broader learning experience is enhanced through focused studies in Approaches to Popular Culture, Asian Media and Culture, Cinema Studies, Contemporary Politics and Communication or Literary Studies, as well as a range of electives subjects.

Graduates have the practical and theoretical knowledge to begin a career in journalism, in Australia and abroad, and can show employers evidence of skills and achievements with a professional portfolio of published work.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in any English.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
