Overview

Get equipped with an array of skills necessary for a career in screen-based media. You will study scriptwriting, cinematography, creative collaboration, editing, sound, lighting and directing. One of the only universities that teaches you how to shoot on 16mm film; our graduates emerge ready for a rewarding career in screen with specialised skills for associated creative areas.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts (Screen) aims to equip students with skills in screen production including the operation of software and hardware and the various skills employed by production teams. This degree emphasises the collaborative nature of teamwork required by the industry and enables students to plan, develop and complete a screen product, including production and post-production stages. This degree will develop an understanding of screen media through an understanding of its historical developments, its social and cultural applications, and the function of the formal and aesthetic properties of its various forms providing students with an understanding of the creative process.

On completion of this degree students will be able to demonstrate conceptual, practical, and technical skills to produce creative work to a high standard with interpersonal skills to become effective members of creative productions and planning teams. Students will hold high-level knowledge of the processes involved in the production of creative work including sound knowledge of theories, factual content, and research methods.

This degree prepares graduates for employment in a wide range of employers in the arts and communications industries nationally and internationally. Potential occupations may include freelance director, cinematographer and production assistant; potential employers may include newspapers, magazines and television stations.
