Overview

Offered in collaboration with TAFE SA through Adelaide College of the Arts, this degree offers an intensive studio-based program that covers both creative and academic skills. You will receive rigorous training in the medium of your choice in ceramics, jewellery, painting, photography, printmaking or sculpture.

This degree aims to equip students with the understanding and practical skills that enable them to investigate and develop their artistic practice in a chosen medium in the visual arts and to explore practical issues and techniques through studio work. This degree provides students with the capacity to analyse concepts of creativity and visual thinking with experience in the creative process; and the application of logical thought, analysis, and research skills in ways that will enhance both the creative and practical processes required in the production of visual art.

Students will be required to enrol in the following TAFE SA award concurrently with Flinders topics in the degree: Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts (CUV60211) offered by the Adelaide College of the Arts at TAFE SA.

On completion of this degree students will be able to produce creative work to a high standard using conceptual, practical and technical skills and be able to evaluate high-level knowledge of the processes involved in the production of creative work in both themselves and others. Students will be able to justify sound knowledge of theories, factual content and research methods including an awareness of practices and appraise knowledge of aspects of the arts industries relevant to their chosen program.

This degree prepares graduates for employment in a wide range of employers in the arts and communications industries nationally and internationally. Potential occupations may include visual artist, arts and culture development officer and illustrator.
