Overview

Combine a degree in criminology with a recognised legal qualification in this innovative interdisciplinary degree. You'll gain broad theoretical and applied knowledge and skills in policy development, policing and security.

The criminology component of the course addresses the challenges that crime and criminal justice pose for practitioners and policy makers, offering subjects in policing, sentencing and corrections, forensics, victimisation, and research and policy development.

The law component of the course provides a high-quality legal education with a strong global and social justice perspective. This is complemented by an emphasis on hands-on experience.

You'll have the opportunity to study clinical legal education subjects, allowing you to gain practical legal experience as part of your degree.

You'll also have exposure to organisations such as private law firms and community legal services.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites..

Potential Career Outcomes

This course satisfies the academic requirements for admission to the legal profession in Victoria.

You may build a career specifically in criminal law, advocacy for ex-prisoners and youth at risk, research, public policy development and review, crime prevention in the community sector, correctional services, the police force (with additional qualifications), the courts system or work as a Solicitor, Barrister, corporate lawyer or in-house counsel.
