Overview

This specialisation will qualify you to teach primary and secondary students aged from five to 18 years, particularly those with additional needs.

You will learn to create positive classroom and school environments that engage the diversity of learners in inclusive education settings, and be able to adapt curriculum for children with additional needs including disability, giftedness, mental health issues and those from non-English speaking backgrounds.

You will acquire advanced skills of collaboration and consultation - with other teachers, support personnel, parents, allied health professionals and agency representatives - that are critical for teachers working with children with diverse needs.

Travel between campuses may be required.

This course is equivalent to 4.25 years of full time study but is completed in 4 calendar years.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

As for Year 12 (or Year 12 equivalent).
