Discover what it takes to teach and lead young people by studying Deakin's accredited Bachelor of Education (Primary). Gain the essential knowledge and skills required to guide children through their primary learning years and develop a solid foundation in primary curriculum. You will learn to teach mathematics to science, the arts to literacy, while putting your new knowledge and skills into practice during regular supported primary school teaching placements.

Choose from a broad range of primary specialisations, including language and literacy, mathematics and numeracy, science, languages and health and physical education. Request rural, regional, metropolitan or global primary school placement, learn strategies for creating inclusive classrooms, teaching in International Baccalaureate schools or challenging environments. You'll graduate qualified and classroom ready to confidently teach.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 35 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: one of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) will equip you with the skills and knowledge for a successful career in education. Upon graduation, you'll be qualified to teach in schools within the government, Catholic or independent education sectors. Graduates may also find work in other fields including community services, government agencies, not-for-profit organisations and IB accredited primary schools.
