Overview

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) develops your skills to address the diverse academic and developmental needs of young people.

You'll gain discipline expertise to teach across all stages of secondary school. You'll have the opportunity to specialise in two of the following disciplines: English, mathematics, humanities (including history, geography and economics), science (including physics, chemistry and biology), languages other than English (LOTE), English as a second language (ESL)/TESOL, physical education (PE), health education, visual arts, drama, psychology or special education.

The design of the program reflects the school year, giving you the opportunity to undertake ongoing school experience and integrate your knowledge and skills with practice.

You'll complete 80 days of professional experience during the course, equipping you with the practical skills to graduate career ready.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in one of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

After graduation, you'll be prepared to work in government and independent schools nationally and overseas (subject to registration).

You could find roles in:
  • Secondary schools Teach, mentor and support children in secondary schools.
  • Community organisations Develop, implement and deliver community education programs and interventions
  • Non-traditional learning environments Provide guidance for advisory boards, private organisations, local and state governments, and media and service industries.
