Overview

The Bachelor of Health Sciences/Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health Practice enables students to qualify to practise as an environmental health officer and develop the knowledge required to promote community understanding of environmental health issues. It prepares students to integrate the many disciplines that make up environmental health, including public health, to improve the health of communities. It aims to encourage students to promote an understanding within the community of environmental health and the role of their profession, and to be committed to ongoing lifelong learning. Environmental Health graduates are employed in a variety of roles in local, state and Commonwealth government organisations (such as local councils, state health departments, environmental protection and water catchment management agencies), in the private sector (with food manufacturers and producers, mining, environmental and other industries), and in research (medical and environmental). Examples of potential occupations include environmental health officer, health promotion officer, Quality Assurance officer, environmental project coordinator, environmental compliance officer and greenhouse inventory officer.
