The Bachelor of Languages aims to provide high levels of proficiency in language within a curricular framework that fosters the development of advanced levels of linguistic and cultural competency for languages-oriented university students. This degree exposes students to a wide body of specific and cross-disciplinary knowledge relative to language acquisition and cultural practices, from Applied Linguistics, to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Creative Writing, or English, depending on the program of study chosen.
This degree also allows students to complete a second major or minor sequence in a second language (listed above) that must be different from the first; or Chinese, German or Japanese (studied cross-institutionally at the University of Adelaide).
On completion of this students are able to communicate at a high level of competence in the main target language of study and demonstrate competency in a second target language of study or have gained knowledge and skills in one of the following areas of study: Applied Linguistics, Creative Writing, English, or TESOL. This degree develops an understanding of language acquisition and demonstrates a broad knowledge of Cultural Studies relative to their language of study.
This degree prepares graduates for greater employment opportunities both nationally and internationally. Potential occupations may include international trade officer, translator and interpreter and international student advisor; potential employers may include translation services, international developers, and government agencies.

Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study.
