Overview

In our Bachelor of Languages and Linguistics, you’ll explore the foundations of human communication, the structure and history of languages, and how communication skills are acquired and developed.

You’ll develop an advanced understanding of linguistics, investigating sound systems, how sentences are structured, and the ways we use language and interpret meaning. Then you’ll choose a language major and explore the culture of your chosen language, with options including Chinese, French, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Hindi.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Majors

Chinese studies, French studies, Greek studies, Hindi studies, Italian studies, Japanese studies, Spanish studies.

As a graduate in languages and linguistics, your advanced language, problem-solving and critical thinking skills will open doors to a range of careers.
