Overview

Want to zero in on the world's most widely spoken language? China is the second-largest international economy and a crucial partner in Australia's economic success. Nearly 20% of our global population speaks their official language. In a fast-changing world, mastering Mandarin will only open doors.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Languages (Chinese Studies) is interactive and immersive. You will:

  • learn to speak, read and write in Chinese
  • develop an understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture
  • study Chinese influence in modern society
  • understand the relationship between the Chinese spoken and written language
  • have the opportunity to study abroad
The University of Adelaide has student exchange links with several key Chinese universities and a special relationship with Shandong University. We offer an intensive Chinese in-country summer school in Jinan, which counts as credit toward your degree.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Adelaide also offers special scholarship opportunities for study in China. What better way to test newly developed language skills and immerse yourself in the culture?

Where could it take you?

You could be a finance manager, a researcher, a diplomat, an immigration specialist, or a corporate executive. You might pursue a career in international law. Perhaps you're interested in teaching, tourism, or translation.
