Overview

What makes French culture so unique? Throughout history, it has profoundly impacted the world. To this day, French remains the second most studied foreign language in the world. It is the official language in 29 countries and one of the only languages other than English spoken on five continents.

What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Languages (French Studies) is interactive and immersive. You will:

  • earn to speak, read and write French
  • study various facets of French and Francophone history, culture and society
  • explore how French language and culture have influenced the world
  • improve your knowledge of how language works
  • have the opportunity to study abroad
The University of Adelaide has student exchange links with over 100 institutions around the world. You can study overseas for one or two semesters, with credit toward your degree.

Where could it take you?

As the official language of all United Nations agencies and many international organisations, French can be a pathway to industry internships, employment, collaboration and research. You could be a public servant, an immigration specialist, a social worker, or a communications consultant. You might pursue international business. Perhaps you're interested in translation, tourism, or teaching.
