Overview

Provides a professionally approved law qualification and a degree in biomedicine. You’ll develop high-level thinking, analytical skills and specialist law knowledge for use in medical and health-related fields. You can study law electives relevant to science and specialised subjects, such as Law and Medicine. You will also have the opportunity to participate in international mooting competitions and undertake clinical legal work placements.

In the biomedicine component, you’ll learn the theoretical underpinnings of biomedical disciplines such as anatomy, biochemistry and physiology to enable detailed study of the human body in health and diseases including infectious, immunological and neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. The course also emphasises the development of practical research and laboratory skills to enable students to both apply and undertake laboratory-based research. Students will also learn how to convey biomedical science-based information to a variety of audiences.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Biochemistry, Biomedical science, Biomedicine, Biosciences, Cell and molecular biology, Chemistry, Health, Human physiology, Law, Medical science.

Potential Career Outcomes

You'll  be well prepared for diverse roles around the world in areas such as specialist legal practice, solicitor, barrister, government lawyer, in-house counsel in pharmaceutical companies, education, medical sales, administration, and media and communications. Alternatively, you may explore career opportunities in hospitals, government departments, or the biomedical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
