Swinburne’s Laws/Science double degree offers you a course focused on commercial law with emphasis on intellectual property law.

As the only double degree in Victoria with this specialisation, you'll learn about trade marks, patents, copyright, the prohibition of misleading or deceptive conduct and competition law. The course also provides an understanding of complex scientific information.

All Swinburne degrees include a guaranteed Work Integrated Learning opportunity. In this degree, you’ll complete professional experience placements at organisations in Australia or overseas. You'll also apply your learning in three professionally focused, science industry-linked projects.

Graduates will have the skills to work within the knowledge economy and information technology businesses, as patent attorneys, and in legal fields specialising in intellectual property, media, and science.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL or at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL); Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

As for Year 12 or equivalent.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates will be equipped for careers in diverse settings such as law firms and barristers’ chambers, not-for-profits, government, small businesses and large multinational organisations. The specialisation in intellectual property law provides graduates with the skills for careers in information-dependant and knowledge-based industries such as advertising and design, banking and finance, entertainment and media, internet and information technology and science.
