Overview

Our oceans cover 70% of the surface of the earth and are some of the most poorly understood ecosystems on the planet. This massive natural resource is also under constant pressures from our modern, coastal society. For complex issues such as global climate change, food production, tourism, oil, gas and mineral extraction, and waste management, the need for highly trained and specialised marine science professionals continues to grow. Griffith is the ideal location to study marine science, because we are like a natural laboratory, with the perfect mix of pristine natural areas and urbanised developments. In the degree you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn outside of the classroom with a range of flexible and innovative programs that get you out into the environment at locations including the Great Barrier Reef and Heron Island. Our Bachelor of Marine Science has a broad interdisciplinary approach, encompassing marine biology, chemistry and quantitative physical science, ensuring you will graduate as a well-rounded coastal and marine professional.
