Overview

If you have a passion for telling stories and using language to change the way we see the world, then La Trobe's major in creative and professional writing is for you.

Offered through La Trobe's Bachelor of Media and Communication, you'll hone your writing skills in multiple genres and forms, including the short story, extended fiction, creative non-fiction and script-writing. You'll also develop editing skills in dedicated classes, with a focus on current practice in the publishing industry and in peer-feedback workshops.

La Trobe's Bachelor of Media and Communciation shows you how to tell stories across any medium. You'll specialise with one major in journalism, sports media, media industries, creative and professional writing, or marketing – then explore your interests with an optional second major, minors and electives from across the university.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Majors

Creative and professional writing.
