Overview

Skills in media and communication are essential to every industry, and the market for media and communication experts is expanding exponentially. As the only degree in South Australia that targets the new professions in global communication and combines communication studies, creative digital media, and business skills, this degree has been designed and developed with the industry in mind. You'll gain the skills to research, write, design and produce content for the ever-changing media landscape. Choosing to specialise in Digital Media, Strategic Communication, Public Relations, or Business Skills and Entrepreneurship, you'll become an informed content creator and will be equipped to persuade and inform different audiences, create graphics and images, publish and maintain communication on various platforms, and undertake marketing and public relations activities. You'll also develop practical industry knowledge and the contacts to graduate prepared for a challenging career.

Flinders' city campus at Festival Plaza is a place where potential meets possibility. Offering a broad range of study areas, this unique, modern space in the heart of Adelaide is designed for collaborative learning, interactive teaching and industry engagement. Positioned adjacent to the Adelaide Railway Station on North Terrace and central to trams and buses, Festival Plaza provides students with greater connection, convenience and accessibility when selecting their preferred study location.

Please note only Year 1 topics of this course will be available in 2024. If you have been granted credit transfer or wish to apply for credit transfer for this course on the basis of previous study and you are granted credit, this may mean you will not be able to enrol in Year 2 or higher year topics, nor able to enrol on a full-time basis until 2025.

The Bachelor of Media and Communication aims to provide the knowledge and skills to be able to research, write, design and produce communication content for a range of media platforms with the ability to adapt written style for different audiences and purposes. This degree provides knowledge of media and communication workplaces and their contexts and the impact of globalisation on communication.

On completion of this degree students will be able to research, write, design and publish in different media and demonstrate knowledge of the business elements of communication and media practices. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of communication processes in organisations including knowledge of international and intercultural contexts within communication.

On completion of this degree there is an opportunity to apply for an addition one-year Honours with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) degree. For further information visit www.flinders.edu.au/honours.

This degree prepares graduates for employment in a wide range of careers in the arts and communications industries nationally and internationally. Potential occupations may include communications officer, social media specialist and public relations officer; potential employers may include news and entertainment corporations, publishers and advertising agencies.
