Benefit from a strong focus on theory and hands-on experience, including industry placements to prepare you for clinical practice. As an international profession with different birthing preferences all over the world, you'll learn how political, socio-cultural, economic and technological factors influence midwifery practice.
Learn in our clinician-led, simulated hospital and health service on campus, which incorporates a birthing suite, special care nursery and postnatal area, as well as birthing manikins.
Complete comprehensive placement hours and be actively involved in 30 births during your studies, along with the pre and post-birth care of at least 100 women. You'll also follow 15 women through their entire pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal journeys.
Graduate with the academic requirements needed for registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). To meet entry requirements, applicants must consider professional registration requirements, including the English Language Skills standard by completing a declaration on how they will demonstrate English language competency, as determined by the NMBA. Once enrolled, students will be required to meet Fitness to Practice in Clinical Placements requirements. CAREERS Registered midwives can work in a variety of healthcare settings, including: Hospitals - community services - rural and remote healthcare - home-based services - health agencies
Interstate students who accept an offer will be required to acknowledge that their placement and Continuity of Care experiences will all be based in South Australia.
