Overview

The Bachelor of Music offers a rich range of experiences, career outcomes and graduate pathways. Students benefit from a globally recognised qualification that can be tailored to meet interests, skills and needs.

Developing technically advanced and experienced musicians an immersive, practical curriculum is offered with core subjects, music electives and breadth subjects, allowing students to choose from either performance, composition, interactive composition, jazz and improvisation, musicology and ethnomusicology or music studies. Some specialisations include weekly individual instrumental practical tuition, vocal or composition lessons, instrument classes, extensive solo and ensemble performance opportunities, and regular master classes with distinguished artists and teachers.

Applicants are considered for a Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship, guaranteeing high-achieving students a place in a graduate degree of their choice. Please see Melbourne Scholarships for information.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

As for Year 12 or subject equivalents.

Composition, Interactive composition, Jazz and improvisation, Music studies, Musicology and ethnomusicology, Performance.
