VU prepares nursing graduates for respectful patient-centred care in the dynamic Australian healthcare environment. The evolving scope of nursing practice requires an understanding of digital health, culturally diverse communities and safety of the public.

Using our state-of-the-art technology you will participate in simulation learning in the classroom and practice your skills in a safe environment to gain the required professional knowledge and skills for practice at a commencement level in general or mental health nursing.

This course includes compulsory professional practice components which are undertaken in a variety of health care agencies across metropolitan and regional Victoria. They may extend beyond the normal academic year and involve morning, afternoon, night and weekend attendance.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Health And Human Development, any Mathematics or Psychology.

Majors

Nursing.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates of this course gain employment in settings such as medical/surgical, emergency, orthopaedics, radiology, research, eye and ear, paediatric community and residential care. Nursing graduates can work in general practice, acute care, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, palliative care, community health and health education as a registered nurse, practice nurse, nurse manager, nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist.
