Overview

Learning about the fundamental concepts in chemistry, biology and the technology of medicines and other formulations you will acquire the knowledge and skills that are critical to the discovery and development of new pharmaceutical products and therapies. After a common two years covering foundation science studies in bio-organic and medicinal chemistry, physical chemistry and physiology you will choose elective studies in the third year.

You will further develop your written and oral communication skills, gain laboratory skills through practical classes and a research or industry placement, and be ready for a career in pharmaceutical research, the biomedical industry and many other fields that require advanced chemical-formulation skills. You will also develop an understanding of the application of pharmaceutical methods and professional practices required in the workplace.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in Chemistry; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

As for Year 12 (or Year 12 equivalent).
