Overview

Develop a career as a physical educator in exercise and sport science, fitness and health, or coaching, or undertake postgraduate study to qualify to teach Health and Physical Education. This course provides knowledge and skills in physical education through studies in sport, exercise science and health. You will study games and sports, skill acquisition, motor development, anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, individual fitness activities, aquatics, and nutrition.

Graduates can progress into the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) secondary physical education and secondary health discipline and can complete a third discipline from a range of minors including Biology, Environmental Science, History, Literary Studies, Mathematics/Statistics, Psychology or Science and Student Welfare.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates can gain careers in physical education, sport scienceand health, and coaching. Graduates from this course who complete postgraduate study in education (Master of Teaching) will be qualified to teach in schools. The course covers all the requirements set out by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) discipline specialist area guidelines in secondary physical education and secondary health.
