Overview

This course enables you to graduate with a major in Biotechnology or Ecology and Environmental Management. With a common first year and majors being chosen in second year, you can customise your program further by adding minors.

Minors available include: analytical chemistry, ecology, aboriginal knowledge and community, , environmental science, cell biology/microbiology/molecular biology, mathematics/statistics and the entrepreneurial mindset.

The Biotechnology major will develop your expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology and cell biology with a focus on biomedical applications.

The Ecology and Environmental Management major offers extensive field work in terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments, and interaction with endangered habitats and species.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.

Majors

Biotechnology, Ecology and Environmental Management.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates will gain a thorough knowledge and practical skills for contemporary science careers in industry, state and federal governments, biotechnology, ecology, environmental management and sustainability, medical and pharmaceutical research, agriculture and aquaculture, the food and beverage industry, scientific sales, with job titles including biotechnologist, environmental scientist, ecologist, analytical chemist, land/bush care coordinator, environmental planner and environmental educator.
