Discover how inherited genes influence our development and health through La Trobe's major in genetics.

Offered through La Trobe's Bachelor of Science, you'll gain an understanding of the mechanisms that enable biological processes at a molecular level. You'll build the skills you need to contribute to some of today's biggest challenges, such as protecting endangered animals or developing new ways to treat disease.

La Trobe's Bachelor of Science offers you foundational skills in science and the freedom to delve into your passions. Whether it’s protecting endangered animals, developing new ways to treat disease or fighting climate change, you'll personalise your degree with majors in a range of fields, including botany, statistics, microbiology, genetics, data science and more.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
